Chemical Composition Of Sisal Fiber | Cellulosic Fiber

Sisal fiber is a cellulosic natural fiber. Like all of the natural fiber it is a natural fiber. It is collected from the leaf of a plant like cactus. This leaf is very straight and sharp. By processing this leaf sisal fiber is collected.



Sisal fiber cultivating countries: Sisal fiber is cultivated in many countries of the world. Among all of the country Africa, Middle America, West Indies, Florida and some parts of west Indian island where this plant is cultivated.



Chemical Composition of Sisal Fiber: Sisal is composed of many chemical components. Cellulose is the main component of sisal fiber. Here, I have presented the chemical composition of sisal fiber.

Cellulose                 : 71.5%

Hemi-cellulose          : 18.1%

Lignin                     : 5.9%

Pectin                    : 2.3%

Fat and wax            : 0.5%

Water soluble matter: 1.7%

Properties of Sisal Fiber: Sisal fiber is a straight fiber. The color of the fiber is yellowish. It is decomposes in the salt water.

Uses of Sisal Fiber: Sisal fiber is used for making rope, twine and high qualified brash. It is uses as the alternatives of the tail of horse. It is used by mixing with hemp fiber.

So, sisal fiber has an importance in some cases.
